In an accident, who pays for the damage?

The vehicle has comprehensive first-class insurance, including serious accidents. What you pay depends on the situation:

What happens if the car breaks down?

In the event of a breakdown or accident, contact the insurer immediately (24/7 support line, details provided at delivery): the insurer handles roadside assistance and repair. On our side, we provide a replacement vehicle if available; otherwise, we refund the remaining days of the month during which you are without a car (and the price difference if the replacement is a lower tier). If the immobilization is not your fault, you can also terminate with no fee. However, if the breakdown or damage results from misuse (battery at 0%, a charging error, off-road use) or a violation (alcohol, drugs), the repairs remain your responsibility, deducted from the deposit.

How does the deposit work?

A refundable deposit of 7,000 THB is paid when you pick up the vehicle - in cash or by card (Stripe). It is returned in full when you bring the vehicle back in good condition.

What is Stripe? How can I pay?

Stripe is a secure, world-leading payment provider. Through Stripe you can pay by credit or debit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) or with PromptPay (Thai QR code). Payments are encrypted end-to-end - EV Rental Phuket never sees or stores your card details. Stripe covers the monthly rent and the refundable deposit (charged, then refunded when you return the car). Cash is also accepted. Note: card and PromptPay payments include a 3.5% processing fee, which is never refunded, including on the deposit or any other refund. Cash is charged the exact amount.

Do I need a Thai driving license?

No. An international driving permit (IDP) along with your valid home country license is accepted. We can also help you obtain a Thai license if you're staying long-term.

How much does it cost to charge?

At 6.6 THB per kWh, a typical 20%→80% charge costs about 152-250 THB depending on the model. Compared to a petrol car at ~4 THB/km in Phuket traffic, going electric saves you over 75% on fuel.

Can I extend my contract?

Absolutely. You can extend at any time. If you extend into a longer tier (e.g., from 3 months to 6 months), we'll adjust your rate to the lower monthly price retroactively.

Is there a mileage limit?

No mileage limit. Drive as much as you want around Phuket and beyond.

Can I take the car off the island?

Yes, you can drive to the mainland. Just let us know in advance. The car is covered by insurance throughout Thailand.

What's included in the monthly price?

Everything: the car, first-class insurance, maintenance. You only pay for electricity.

Is there a minimum age to rent?

Yes. You must be at least 21 years old to rent a car with EV Rental Phuket, with a valid passport and driving license (an international permit plus your home-country license).

Can I smoke or bring my pet in the car?

The vehicle is strictly non-smoking (no smoking or vaping on board). Pets are welcome only in a suitable travel carrier or bag, never directly on the seats. Any smoke odour, hair or soiling results in cleaning fees deducted from the deposit.

Charging an electric car in Phuket is easier than most people expect. Here is how home charging works, where the public stations are, and what it costs.

Charging at home

You can charge from any standard Thai wall outlet (220V). A full overnight charge gives you 100% battery, which is more than enough for a full day of driving around the island. For most renters, plugging in at home overnight is all they ever need.

Public charging networks

Phuket has a growing network of public chargers at malls, hotels and petrol stations. The main networks you will see include EV Station PluZ (PTT/OR), PEA Volta and Evolt, with both AC and DC fast charging available across the island.

DC fast charging can take you from a low battery to 80% in roughly 30 to 60 minutes depending on the model, ideal when you are out and about.

What about range?

Phuket is a compact island, so range anxiety is rarely an issue. With 250 to 500 km of range depending on the vehicle, you can cross the island many times on a single charge. For long-term renters, an EV simply means cheaper, quieter, hassle-free driving.
